Hypocrites quote about Medicine

“Wherever the art of Medicine is loved, there is also a love of Humanity.”

— Hippocrates

Hippocrates a Greek philosopher and physician. Born around 460 BC. Died in 370 BC. He is known as a famous physician and philosopher of classical Greece. He is also considered as an outstanding figure in the history of medicine. He is traditionally called the 'Father of Medicine'. The use of prognosis and clinical observations, the systematic classification of diseases, the formulation of humoral theory — his recognition for lasting contributions to all these fields of medical science. The 'Hippocratic School of Medicine' revolutionized ancient Greek medicine. It is established as a separate category from other fields. In the past they were traditionally associated with theurgy and philosophy. It is because of his contribution that medicine was established as a profession.

However, the works of later practitioners of Hippocratic medicine and Hippocrates' own works have merged into one. So little is known about what Hippocrates actually thought, wrote and did. Hippocrates is usually portrayed as the ideal local of ancient physicians and is credited with creating the 'Hippocratic Oath'. This oath is still considered relevant in almost all countries (except India) and is used even today. He is also credited with systematic studies of clinical medicine, summarizing the medical knowledge of earlier schools, and prescribing practices for physicians through the Hippocratic Corpus and other works.

Hippocrates was the first person to believe that disease had various natural causes; Not because of the wrath of any gods. Pythagoras' disciples were recognized for their alliance with philosophy and medicine. He separated the discipline of medicine from religion. believed and argued that disease was not a punishment inflicted by the gods but a result of environmental factors, diet and lifestyle habits.

However, Hippocrates held many beliefs that were based on incorrect anatomy and physiology, such as humorism.

More quotes from Hippocrates:

It is thus with regard to the disease called Sacred:
“it appears to me to be now more divine nor more sacred than other diseases, but has a natural cause from the origins like other affections. Men regard its nature and cause as divine from ignorance and wonder....”

— Hippocrates, On the Sacred Disease (epilepsy)

“If you want to learn about the health of a population, look at the air they breathe, the water they drink, and the places where they live.”

— Hippocrates, 5th century BC
