Plato was a Greek philosopher and political thinker. Various books written by him enriched the history of human civilization. These books of his have played an important role in the transition from primitive social system to modern state and social system.

Plato discussed political issues in his book called 'The Republic', which in Bengali means 'প্রজাতন্ত্র'.

In section 347c of the first volume of this book, he analyzed the views of various contemporary thinkers while expressing his opinion about the good ruler. Plato made the above statement while analyzing the views of Socrates and Thrasymachus with the contemporary thinker Glaucon and giving his conclusions.
