Article: Crisis of Civilization (সভ্যতার সংকট),
Rabindra Rachanavali,
One day or another, due to the changing wheels of fate, the British will have to leave this Indian Empire. But which India will they leave behind, what a wreckage of poverty and destruction? When the rule of several centuries comes to an end, what a vast forlorn wasteland will continue to bear the miserable failure. At the beginning of my life, I believed with all my heart in the wealth of Europe, the gift of this civilization. And today, on the day of my departure, that faith has become completely bankrupt. Today, I hope that the birthday of the Savior is coming to our poverty-stricken hut; I will wait, that He will bring the divine message of civilization, that He will come and tell people the ultimate hope of humanity from this eastern horizon. Today I set out for the other side—what I saw and left behind, what a small remnant of history, a narrow pile of civilizational pride! But, losing faith in humanity is a sin, I will protect that faith to the end. I hope that after the great flood, a pure revelation of history in the cloudless sky of detachment may begin from the horizon of the sunrise of this eastern region. And one day, an undefeated man will overcome all obstacles in his victorious journey and move forward on the path to regaining his great dignity. I consider it a crime to believe that humanity's endless, irremediable defeat is the ultimate.
